Main Roads Open Data Update Notification – Transition to GDA2020

Scheduled for Nov 13, 17:00 AWST  -  Nov 16, 00:00 AWST

Scheduled

Please note: Main Roads Open Data will be migrated from the Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) to the Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020) over the weekend of 13–15 November 2026, commencing at 5:00 PM AWST on Friday 13th November 2026, and continuing until midnight on Sunday 15th November 2026.

What Will Change

• Main Roads Open Data downloads will be provided in GDA2020 where the selected format supports the native dataset coordinate system.
• All Main Roads web services will be published in GDA2020, allowing them to display correctly as GDA2020 in desktop GIS applications.
• Datum transformations will be applied to web services to maintain alignment with GDA94-based web maps and services. This ensures consistency with Landgate web services and supports organisations that have not yet migrated to GDA2020.

What Open Data Users Will Need to Do

• Update ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to handle Main Roads data in GDA2020.
• When publishing web services for use with WGS 1984 Web Mercator basemaps, apply the appropriate datum transformation (EPSG:9691 ArcGIS Server and EPSG:9690 for ArcGIS Online) to ensure alignment with Main Roads and Landgate web services.
